The Jacket Story

Here a funny story that Uncle Rod shared with me...

We had moved to Medicine Hat , Alberta , Canada from Bow Island , Alberta . It was the Summer of 1955. I was 13 years old. We were only in the new Medicine Hat Ward for a few months when Grandpa was called to be the new Bishop. Every year, the Ward would sponsor a Food Booth at the Medicine Hat Stampede Rodeo. We sold the usual hot dogs, hamburgers, soda, chips, chili, etc. One of our Ward members was a 28-year old bachelor – handsome single guy – new convert who still lived with his widowed mother in her home in the City. He and my parents were trying to get her interested in the Church and she became an investigator and came to Church often and joined in our Ward Activities. She and my parents and a couple of other members were working the Food Booth. It started to get a little cold and Grandma loaned the investigator her jacket. Grandma and Grandpa were always playing tricks on each other and as Grandpa was walking around inside the food booth, he saw the investigator bending over getting something from off the ground. Grandpa thought it was Grandma because she was wearing Grandma’s jacket so he walked over behind her and reached under her dress and pinched her butt. The startled investigator quickly stood up and looked at Grandpa. They both stood there with their mouths wide open and eyes bugged out not knowing what to say to each other – the Bishop and the Investigator. Of course, Grandpa apologized profusely explaining he thought it was Grandma and they were both embarrassed to look at each other the rest the day. When Grandpa told us later what happened, we all had a good laugh… and later she still joined the Church much to Grandpa’s relief.

A Place To Gather

I thought I would start a blog where the posterity of Douglas and Georgina Anderson can gather to keep up with each other. As soon as I finish getting this blog ready, I'll let everyone know about it. I'd love to have family updates at least once a month - so we can keep track of everyone. I'll post updates on Grandma here, as well. Can't wait to get this blog up and running...
